Derelict – A Broken Body

"Derelict" is the culmination of a semester-long student project done for the "Games Lab - Master Practical".

"Derelict" is a resource management game in which you embody the just reactivated AI  of a derelict ship, adrift in the vastness of space. The majority of your systems are completely broken or in a state of general disrepair. 

As the system handling how the ship runs, you have only one directive:

Through the turn-based gameplay system, interact with objects, accumulate resources and use them to bring the ship to a stable state. Manage what little resources and information you have to accomplish your task, while you discover more about what actually happened and  how you woke up at the beginning of the game. 

What is available?

The student project covered the creation of a demo. This is not a fully featured and complete game, but we might consider continuing to work on it, if time allows. For now, what you can find in the demo includes:

• Object interactions
• Basic resource management gameplay
• A few story quests
• Narrative in the form of text dialogues and descriptions
• Vibes

How to play?

You need just 5 buttons to fully interact with the game:

• Move around using WASD
• Interact with objects using Left Mouse Button

Each turn you can choose what actions to play by interacting with objects highlighted in the world. You can take as many actions as you have "Threads" available, those can be found at the bottom of the screen. When you have decided what actions to perform that turn, click the "End Turn" button and they will be executed in order. 

Each action affects your "Resources", that you can find on the bottom-left of the screen.  Pay close attention to those colored in RED, because they are critical and letting them go unchecked too long could lead to unfixable consequences.  

On the top-left, a "Quest" indicator can offer you additional guidance in what you should try to accomplish.
